Advice for a stepparent:

I. Don't try to be the COOL parent.

II. Don't expect to be the INSTANT happy family.

III. Don't bad mouth the other PARENT.

IV. Don't be JEALOUS of the time your mate has with the CHILD.

V. Don't take it PERSONALLY when children favor their biological parent over YOU.
